STI presents a professional solar thermal installation class, covering both solar hot water and solar pool heating systems. This course is ideal for anyone wanting professional, hands-on training in solar thermal systems installation.
This 5 day hands-on training is designed for industry professionals wanting to add solar thermal systems to their offerings and for individuals seeking certification for career advancement within the solar power industry.
The course blends theory with applied practice to provide the full range of knowledge and skills required to efficiently and safely install solar thermal systems – and advise customers on the best systems to select and how to receive the financial benefits available.
You’ll learn:
The course curriculum is designed to meet the NABCEP Solar Thermal Entry Level Learning Objectives which are identified as appropriate and relevant for Entry Level Solar Thermal educational and knowledge assessment programs.
Who should attend: Professionals with experience in plumbing, HVAC, or swimming pool installation, general contractors and Solar PV contractors, and individuals with plumbing, swimming pool, or piping skills will gain valuable skills that will help them advance their businesses and professional careers.

- The financial impact of solar thermal systems for your customers – rebates, local and federal tax credits, potential electric bill changes
- Understanding and fulfilling permit requirements
- The differences between Commercial and Residential installations
- Key safety considerations
- How to size solar thermal systems for maximum effectiveness

How to perform an installation through hands-on experience in STI’s Solar Lab:
- Site analysis and shading
- Racking systems
- Collectors
- Swimming pool system
- Piping and Auxiliary Heat
- What happens after installation: commissioning, data monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting
