This 5-day technical sales course provides hands-on system sales and estimating instruction for people seeking employment in the solar industry, as well as companies that want to grow or establish in-house sales team. It also meets the education requirement for NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification.

In this intensive 5-day training course students will start by learning in depth fundamentals of the solar PV (photovoltaic) and solar hot water (thermal) system and how the systems are installed so that they will have a deeper knowledge of solar. Then the course moves to Site Survey, the key step in accurately sizing a solar system for estimating purposes. Then the course culminates in the specific sales process for the solar industry; methods for pricing a system, utility rates and incentives and how they affect system size, cost, and payback, methods of system payback and how to present a compelling value proposition to a solar buyer. In addition, students will learn about effective solar sales techniques and resources, financing
for solar projects, and customer segmentation.

  • Solar energy fundamentals and market place in Hawaii
  • PV overview including equipment, electric grid, components, inverters and arrays
  • Thermal overview including collector types, components, and types of systems
  • Site analysis – electrical service, location of components, roof types and conditions, site measurement, shade analysis, system performance maximization and system sizing
  • Sales process – qualifying customer, analyzing electric bills, identifying customer needs, to preliminary estimates and preparing winning proposals
  • Design concepts – selecting equipment, location, layout, string sizing, roof types, preliminary designs
  • Financial analysis - ROI, incentives, rates, tiers, rebates, calculations, financial payback
  • Financing solar – types including leases, loans, government financing, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), commercial loans
  • Resources and tools – proposal tools, business planning and lead generation
  • Safety awareness
    This course is a must for contractors that are selling and installing solar PV and solar thermal systems, and salespeople who want to transition into the lucrative and growing solar industry.
